“When Marie was a little girl, she made a vow to herself… she was going to be a scientist, not a princess.”
We love biographies for kids in this house! So when I saw the Little People, Big Dreams Marie Curie book, I just had to get it for our little scientist – after all, polonium is his favourite element!!! (Plus, it never hurts to promote women in science!)
The book takes us on a simplified journey, right from when Marie was a child and studying, through meeting her husband and working with him, to being the first woman to win a Nobel prize and then setting up her own school. (It also helpfully glosses over the death of her husband, just stating he had an accident and left her alone – good for more sensitive little readers.)

The book is full of adorable illustrations, and has a double page spread with photos of Curie and a slightly more in-depth tale of her life at the back. Even though I bought it with Mr 6 in mind, Miss 10 is equally enamoured with it. And of course, like most kids biographies, it has some nuggets of uplifting and encouraging advice for any small world-changers out there! A lovely read!
